Treating Women’s Health

  • Acupuncture and Asian medicine offers a long-standing history and safe approach to treating common ailments that affect many women. These include balancing menstrual cycles and hormones, pain or menstrual pathologies, stress and emotional imbalances, fertility issues, menopausal symptoms, sexual dysfunction, as well as treating common ailments during pregnancy, labor and the postpartum period.

As a woman and a mother, Summer Nemri, LAc, EAMP, draws from her own personal experiences and adapts treatments based on what each individual patient is looking for and needing.

“I always default to you, your body,” Summer says. “Your body is wise! I understand that it can be challenging to get quiet enough to listen to what it needs. I like to encourage you to believe that it’s possible to be so in tune with yourself that you begin to hear what it is that your body is asking of you.”

Women are powerful beings—we are magic, and we are transformational. Our bodies are so incredible, waiting to give life in so many forms. “More than anything, I want this magic to be allowed and given a space to create,” Summer explains. “Sometimes, that’s all we need: permission to let go and surrender to the wild unknown of our divine Femininity.”

Summer is an expert at getting down and dirty with what a patient’s physical and emotional body is asking. Using acupuncture, often times in conjunction with herbal medicine and essential oils, as well as abdominal massage in certain cases, can bring the body back into hormonal balance.

Fertility

Fertility treatments using acupuncture and Chinese medicine have gained much popularity in the past few years, as people have discovered how effective it is! For example, many infertility cases can be treated with the intention of stress relief and relaxation.

All too often we find that the source of infertility problems is rooted in a cultural prioritizing of 'more is better' and the subtle messages that we receive to 'achieve, do, and go'. We are put in a constant state of stress, disrupting our body's ability to stay in balance. This is worsened by years of poor nutrition and eating on the go. Of course, some cases have more complex issues going on. However, infertility can be very stressful and put a lot of pressure on the couple without them even realizing it.

When we are stressed and poorly nourished our bodies may be unwilling to support another life. We are in overdrive just trying to keep ourselves going. When we slow down and listen to our body we begin to hear what our body and spirit truly needs for healing.

The greatest healing comes from going inward and listening to what you body really needs on all levels – physical, emotional and spiritual. A combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, and meditation can have a profound effect on all these levels.

Simple and effective stress relief treatments help to get the mind out of the way as well as the circulation moving in a smoother way. It’s surprising how quickly someone becomes pregnant when they are able to step out of the way and relax a little.

Acupuncture and Asian Medicine is a system that can work alone or in combination with any of the allopathic infertility approaches. Whether you are trying to conceive on your own or with the assistance of modern technology, such as In-vitro Fertilization (IVF), Intra-uterine Insemination (IUI), or with ovulatory-stimulating medications, acupuncture has been proven to increase your chances of conception and fertility.
